Situated along the historic waterfront of Buenos Aires, this contemporary museum draws its inspiration from the boundaries and proportions of the adjacent 19th-century dock buildings. The design carefully traces the original industrial plot lines, grounding the new structure within the city’s rich urban and architectural context. The building’s massing emerges through a series of subtle manipulations—lifting, extruding, and shifting the envelope at key points to articulate entrances, create public terraces, and frame views toward the canal. These spatial gestures not only invite visitors into the museum but also forge a dynamic relationship with the waterfront and surrounding cityscape. Materiality plays a central role in the project’s identity. White concrete imparts a sense of permanence and clarity, while expansive glazing introduces transparency, natural light, and visual connections between interior spaces and the canal. The interplay of solid and void, opacity and openness, defines both the exterior presence and the visitor experience within. Internally, the museum unfolds as a sequence of flexible galleries and gathering spaces, designed to accommodate contemporary art and cultural events. The architecture aspires to balance contextual sensitivity with a distinct contemporary character, establishing a new cultural landmark where history and innovation converge along the water’s edge.
