S HOUSE

The design of this suburban residence in Ekali Athens, centers on the creation of two distinct courtyards, each serving a unique role in the spatial and experiential organization of the residence. This dual-courtyard strategy establishes a clear dialogue between public and private realms, shaping both the architectural language and the daily life of its inhabitants. Upon entry, visitors are greeted by a generous, more public courtyard—an open, welcoming space that mediates the transition from street to home. This courtyard is defined by minimalist landscaping and a reflecting pool, offering a serene foreground and a place for social gathering or quiet contemplation. Beyond the public zone, the house unfolds around a second, secluded courtyard. Reserved for the residents, this private sanctuary is shielded from view and designed for intimacy, relaxation, and connection with nature. Large glazed openings frame views into this inner garden, allowing natural light to animate the living spaces while preserving privacy. The interplay of these two courtyards organizes the plan, orchestrates movement, and modulates the experience of openness and enclosure. A restrained material palette and precise detailing reinforce the sense of calm and clarity throughout the project. This project aspires to create a harmonious balance between openness and retreat - an architecture that is both welcoming to guests and protective of personal sanctuary.
