H2O: Water Transport Stations
Project info
Architect: 99 01 Architects
Location: Thessaloniki
Type: Competition Entry
Year: 2011
Project H2O reimagines Thessaloniki’s waterfront as a network of contemporary water transport stations. The platforms extend from the city’s urban grid into the sea and their geometry is shaped by the pattern of the streets as they meet the water. Each station is designed to provide sheltered, functional spaces for commuters and visitors—integrating covered walkways, ticketing areas, and waiting zones. The architecture prioritizes clarity and flow: open yet protected, minimal yet welcoming, with every line responding to the city’s rhythm and the needs of daily transit. By connecting land and water, Project H2O offers a new, sustainable way to experience Thessaloniki, enhancing mobility and creating new public spaces along the shoreline.
